I am a researcher, adult educator, sociologist, and policy wonk. I keep this blog because I believe that too much of the work we do as academic-types gets buried in academic journals. My goal is to share what I learn in accessible ways, and contribute to public discourse about paid labour, learning, and formal education.

My Education

I have completed all of my undergraduate work and graduate studies at the University of Alberta: BSc (HEcon) 1996; BEd (2001); MEd (2006); PhD (2015). Throughout my studies I have focused on policy and sociology related to education:

  • Learning in the professions and continuing professional education
  • Teacher professional development (K-12)
  • Marketing, expansion, and credentialism in post-secondary education
  • School to work transitions
  • Career planning
